Basic in open position
Lead
Face your partner in open position. Do not lock knees.
Beat 1
· With weight on right foot, gently push left hand slightly forward.
· Keeping both knees bent, step forward with left foot.
· Transfer weight to left foot.
Beat 2 Without moving feet, shift weight back to right foot and straighten right leg.
Beat 3 Move left foot back to center and transfer weight to left foot.
Beat 5
· Gently pull right hand slightly back towards you.
· Keeping both knees bent, step back with right foot.
· Transfer weight to right foot.
Beat 6 Without moving feet, shift weight back to left foot and straighten left leg.
Beat 7 Move right foot back to center and transfer weight to right foot.
Repeat while counting 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7 and 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7.

· With weight on left foot and knees bent, step back on your right foot as Lead pushes on your right hand.
· Transfer weight to right foot and lift left heel.
Beat 2
· Without moving your feet, shift weight back to left foot and straighten left leg.
· Lift right heel.
Beat 3
· Move right foot back to center and transfer weight to right foot.
· Lift left heel.
Beat 5
· As lead pulls left hand, keep knees bent and step forward with left foot.
· Transfer weight to left foot and lift right heel.
Beat 6
· Without moving your feet, shift weight back to right foot and straighten right leg.
· Lift left heel.
Beat 7
· Move left leg back to center and transfer weight to left foot.
· Lift right heel.
Repeat while counting 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7 and 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7.
NOTE: If you are too stiff, Lead will not be able to move you.
Tips
The smaller the steps, the better it looks. You only need to step one foot length away.
Do not attempt to twist hips. Bend knees and hips will follow.
Step with the balls of your feet, not your heels.
Once you have learned a step, look at your partner’s face, not feet.
Be patient and pleasant with your partner, whatever happens.
