Finding and Testing a Good Floor

Salsa has been danced on almost every surface, from hardwood to cement. However, for beginners, it is advised that you use a smooth surface. If you are wearing the correct shoes, it should be slightly slippery but not too much so.  While you may start out trying these steps in your kitchen, here are a few good places to find the right floor.

·         Your local gym

·         Your local community center

·         Ballrooms in your area

Testing the Floor

  1. Stand up straight with your feet together.
  2. Put your weight on your left foot.
  3. Push your right foot out, with only your toe touching the floor.
  4. You should be able to slide across with very slight resistance.

WARNING: If you choose a floor that is too slippery, you risk falling and injuring yourself and/or your partner.
